giving up sex….
October 18th, 2006No, no.. I’m not giving up sex. It would be a cold day in hell before I do that. I have a soda that I love to drink and i didn’t want to give it up at all. I’ve referred to this soda as liquid sex… it is so yummy but it is by far one of the worst sodas you could drink. It’s loaded with more soda than others and the caffeine is off the chart! It is my beloved Mountain Dew.
I gave it up the day I blogged about my breakfast of Mountain dew and Cheetos. I didn’t write about it because I wasn’t sure how long I would be able to give it up. I usually have 1 or 2 cans every morning and I really feel like I need it much like coffee drinkers need their coffee in the morning. It has actually been tough and I find myself longing for a mountain dew. It’s a fucking soda and I’m wanting it like I want to get laid….wtf is wrong with me?
I feel like I’ve broken up with a love that I’m not ready to give up!
I love you mountain Dew.. and I’m sorry.

I know we all give up things we like when we try to lose weight… but what are some things people have given up that has been EXTREMELY hard on them.. something they’ve had an emotional or physical (NO..not that you sickos) affair with?
I gave up vegetables for Lent one year. ;P
Honestly, I’m not a boozehound, but alcohol is something I’m trying to cut back on - talk about empty calories there! I’ll drink out on the weekends, but I’m trying to cut back on weeknight beer/glasses of wine. I just don’t need it, so that’s my sin du jour.
Overall I’m not so much about cutting things out all the way - I’m more a fan of moderation, having one of something versus a handful, one of the small cans of pop versus the whole thing, etc. It’s worked well for me so far!
Good luck.

DIET COKE! OMG — I never even drank that much of it (the most I ever drank in one day was two 20 oz bottles and most of the time I drank one per day) but holy cow, I could not kick it. I was like Robert Downy Jr with cocaine. I’d give it up for days or weeks, but soon I’d find myself with that red and white can in my hand again. For the past few months, I’ve only had a few diet cokes though (that would be a few total, not a few per day!). Dang, I miss my DC.

Wow…you’re a strong woman! Bear with it, and you’ll feel great soon, and won’t miss it quite as much! I quit regular ole potato chips…still do the baked ones sometimes, though! Great job!

OMG - I feel the same way about Diet MT.Dew! LOVE it. Used to have 3 to 4 cans a day at work due to a pop machine that was too close to my office. I had to go cold-turkey, however in December because I moved to Australia and they don’t stock it here. GOD I miss it! I started drinking tea instead and I am glad too, because I just read a report that claims the phos acid in sodas contribut to Osteoporosis in women. Next thing you know, lettuce is going to cause cancer. Oy.

I used to be addicted to Diet Coke, and I blame Weight Watchers for that since its 0 points on their plan and it agreed with my bladder a lot more than water does.
My friend was in love with Mountain Dew and we were all very worried about how much she drank - since its got 10 times the caffeine of coffee. I once remember seeing a documentary about a man who was so addicted to it that a grocery shopping trip required two trolleys; one for the regular foodstuffs and one for the Mountain Dew. OUCH!
